The 23rd Annual Pumpkin Fall Festival at Aloun Farms, presented by D.R.

Horton Hawaii and Pacific Media Group, will take place on October 18-19, 25-26, and November 1-2 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Attendees can enjoy family-friendly activities such as local entertainment, food vendors, self-pick produce, keiki rides, a petting zoo, a farmers' market, and tractor hayrides. The event will be held at Aloun Farms in Kapolei, HI.

Entry is $5 per person, which includes parking (children under two are free).

Rides and pony rides by Ek Fernandez are sold separately.

The Hawaii Department of Transportation has announced a speed limit reduction on Kuakini Highway in Kona.

The speed limit will be lowered from 55 mph to 45 mph for a four-mile stretch between Old Mamalahoa Highway and Kamehameha III Road.

This change will affect mile markers 113.6 to 117.1, and the new speed limit will be enforced starting around Nov. 16.

The speed limit signs will be updated within 30 days of the announcement.

Residents of Kona should prepare to adjust their driving speeds accordingly on this section of Route 11.

A planned water outage in Kihei will impact residents Monday night due to repair work at Sugar Beach Resort.

The outage will start at 10 p.m. and affect areas from Sugar Beach Resort to Uwapo Road.

Condos, businesses, and fire hydrants in the vicinity are expected to be affected.

Repairs are scheduled to be completed around 3 a.m. Tuesday.

Lilikoi (Passionfruit) Coconut Cooler

Perfect for warm trade-wind afternoons

Ingredients

• 1 cup fresh lilikoi (passionfruit) juice or puree

• 1 cup coconut water

• ½ cup pineapple juice

• 1 tbsp honey or agave (optional)

• Sparkling water (top-off)

• Crushed ice

• Mint + lime (garnish)

Instructions

1. In a pitcher, combine lilikoi juice, coconut water, and pineapple juice.

2. Add honey or agave to taste.

3. Pour over crushed ice.

4. Top with sparkling water for fizz.

5. Garnish with mint + a slice of lime.

Flavor notes: Tropical, bright, slightly tart — very “island sunset.”

Kalua Pork Stuffed Sweet Potatoes (Fall Comfort Dish)

A local twist on a cozy seasonal plate

Ingredients

• 2 large Hawaiian sweet potatoes (or Okinawan purple)

• 1–2 cups kalua pork (store-bought or home-cooked)

• 2 tbsp green onions, sliced

• 2 tbsp shredded cheese (optional)

• Drizzle of teriyaki or pineapple BBQ sauce

• Pinch of Hawaiian sea salt

Instructions

1. Bake sweet potatoes until soft (400°F ~40 min).

2. Reheat kalua pork and shred if needed.

3. Split the sweet potatoes open and fluff lightly with a fork.

4. Top generously with kalua pork.

5. Drizzle with pineapple BBQ or teriyaki sauce.

6. Add green onions & cheese (optional).

7. Sprinkle with a tiny pinch of sea salt.
