The 43rd Okinawan Festival is set to transform the Hawaii Convention Center into a bustling hub of culture and commerce on August 30 and 31.
Among the many attractions, the festival's marketplace stands out as a must-visit destination for attendees.
Shari Tamashiro, a dedicated volunteer with the Hawai'i United Okinawa Association (HUOA), emphasizes the marketplace's significance.
"Shopping at the festival offers a unique opportunity to connect with Okinawan heritage and support local artisans," she shares.
Festival-goers can look forward to a diverse array of merchandise, including exclusive HUOA apparel, handcrafted goods from local artisans, and authentic products imported directly from Okinawa.
One of the marketplace's highlights is the Heiwa Dori section, named after the famous shopping street in Naha, Okinawa.
Here, visitors can find specialty items such as konbu (dried kelp) and goya-cha (bitter melon tea), offering a taste of Okinawa's rich culinary traditions.
Additionally, the Country Store will feature a variety of products not typically available in local stores, including the traditional Okinawan spirit awamori and mana-su, a vinegar derived from the awamori production process, known for its health benefits.
Proceeds from the festival's marketplace support HUOA's cultural programs and community initiatives, ensuring that every purchase contributes to the preservation and promotion of Okinawan heritage in Hawai'i.
For more information on the festival and its offerings, visit the official website or follow HUOA on social media.
Don't miss this opportunity to immerse yourself in Okinawan culture and take home a piece of its rich traditions. |
