Total and complete lie': Longtime Hawaii hotel practice still irks many

When they tell you that this fee pays for services, it's a total and complete lie

Hawaii vacation is already expensive, but discovering extra fees after you arrive can make it even more costly. This year, a new rule was put in place by the Federal Trade Commission to help prevent those unwanted surprises. It now prohibits hotels, resorts and vacation rentals from hiding mandatory fees, like resort fees, requiring the total price to be posted up front.

Joke Of The Day

Why did the Hawaiian musician get arrested?

Because he was caught jammin' on his ukulele past curfew!

Interesting Facts
  • Hawaii is the only U.S. state made up entirely of islands.

  • The Hawaiian alphabet only has twelve letters: five vowels and seven consonants.

  • Hawaii is home to the world's largest dormant volcano, Mauna Kea, which stands at over 13,000 feet tall.

Hawaii’s breathtaking beauty and warm spirit hide a darker side—one filled with eerie legends and supernatural whispers. Passed down through generations, these tales offer a spine-tingling glimpse into the islands’ otherworldly side.

First, there are the Night Marchers, the spectral warriors of old. These ancient warriors are said to roam sacred paths by torchlight under the new moon. Encountering them without showing extreme respect—like lying face down—could prove deadly. Witnesses report hearing martial drums, smelling sulfur, and seeing flickering lights along abandoned battle routes.

In Oahu’s Wahiawa Botanical Garden, the Green Lady haunts the greenery. Draped in moss and seaweed, she drifts along the garden paths, eternally searching for her lost child. Visitors—even children—say they feel an unnerving presence and fall under her silent gaze.

Meanwhile in bustling Waikīkī lurks the Faceless Woman—a woman with no features who reportedly appears in mirrors, elevators, and on the beach, vanishing into thin air and chilling those who see her.

Then there’s Pele’s Curse, warning tourists not to take lava rocks or sand. Pele, the fiery goddess of volcanoes, protects the land fiercely—and those who remove natural treasures often report streaks of bad luck, from accidents to relationship woes. Many have mailed rocks back to rid themselves of the curse.

Morgan’s Corner, on Oahu’s Old Pali Road, stands out as a hotspot for paranormal happenings—reports of ghostly figures, voices, cold touches, and even car malfunctions plague drivers passing through.

Pearl Harbor’s USS Arizona Memorial is also said to be haunted—visitors describe phantom sailors pacing the sunken decks, their whispers or footsteps echoing through the empty space above water.

Finally, the mischievous Menehune, tiny nocturnal builders, are believed to fashion grand structures overnight. Catch one in action, though, and you’ll never see it again—adding a mystical folkloric flair to the islands’ myths.

Quote Of The Day

"Aloha is not just a word, it's a way of life."

"Globefish: Where Sushi Rolls and Puns Roll On"

Calgary’s Globefish Sushi & Izakaya in Marda Loop is like a sushi-themed comedy club—but with better food. This izakaya-style gem serves up sashimi, tempura, and sushi burritos so creative you’ll wonder if “roll” is just a fancy term for “culinary stunt.” The cozy, mid-century-wood vibe makes it perfect for casual hangouts—or pretending you're a sushi connoisseur without actually knowing what connoisseur means.

Whether you’re gluten-free, adventurous, or just hangry-for-good-sushi, Globefish has options that'll make your taste buds giggle—quietly, with refined flavor.

If you're in need of a dinner that’s funnier than your uncle’s jokes—but way more delicious—make a reservation stat!
